Religion of Peace™ strikes Bangkok (UPDATED)

Thai police suspect Muslim separatists have taken their terror campaign north to Thailand's capital city, Bangkok. Thai news sources say that at least 7 explosions took place in the downtown and suburban areas of Bangkok at around 6.30pm local time as people prepared for New Year's Eve celebrations. 2 people, Songkran Kanchana and Suwitchai Nakiam are confirmed dead and over 25 injured so far. Most of the bombs were hidden in trash bins. New Year's Eve celebrations in Bangkok and Chiang Mai have been canceled but parties are continuing in Pattaya and Phuket.


I'm still checking Thai news sources for updates. Having spent a lot of time in Thailand over the last 12 years, I don't think these insurgents were very wise to bring their fight outside of the southern Muslim dominated provinces. Obviously, installing Muslim General Sonthi Boonyaratglin in a Thai army leadership position means nothing to the insurgents and it seems as though the situation has worsened in Thailand since former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was ousted in a coup in September. General Sonthi had expressed confidence that he could solve the insurgency. This is not the case as insurgency has gotten worse and it seems like teachers and civilians are killed daily in Thailand's Muslim provinces. Thailand's best option is to get rid of Sonthi and replace him with a Buddhist General and then let the Thai soldiers take care of business in the Muslim provinces, especially since Jemaah Islamiyah is running the insurgency funded by Islamic Malaysian sympathizers from northern Malaysian provinces of Kelantan and Terengganu. General Sonthi is currently performing the Hajj and is unavailable to lead the army.

UPDATE: The Council for National Security suspects that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra is behind the bombings and is ordering a seizure of Thaksin's assets to prevent funding more disturbances. Police have ruled out disgruntled Thaksin supporters and still believe the bombings were the work of Muslim insurgents.

UPDATE II: Two more bombs exploded in the heart of Bangkok once the New Year started, severely injuring many foreign tourists and some Thais. The two bombs exploded nearly simultaneously seconds after the New Year started.

The first bomb exploded at the Best Sea Foods restaurant on the Saen Saeb Canal near the Pratunam Pier just seconds after the New Year countdown ended. Three foreigners and two Thais were injured. One of the foreigners had one leg amputated by the blast. The foreign tourists were having dinner at the restaurant.
Police said the bomb was hidden in a tire at the pier.

The second bomb exploded at a public telephone booth at the pedestrian flyover linking Central World and Kesorn Plaza. Several foreigners were injured and rushed to hospitals.

A suspected bomb was located at the Buddy Bar on Khao Sarn Road about half an hour after midnight and tourists were evacuated from the area.

By 1 am, police also disposed of another bomb at the Lumpini Night Bazaar before it exploded.

UPDATE III: Seems like everyone is accusing everyone of being the bombers. The bombings were similar to previous bombings in Hat Yai and some other places done earlier by insurgents. Lately, the bombs have been more sophisticated but the insurgents have used this MO before. Some are claiming that unhappy police may have done the bombings in response to the army's changes they will make to the National Police force and general unhappiness with the junta.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say if the Islamotards didn't do it, then it might have been the army sending a message to the police to stop grumbling and fall in line with the army's plans. A community police kiosk was a target so I rule out the police. Foreigners were badly injured so I rule out the police and Thaksin's supporters because they need foreign support for Thaksin. That leaves the insurgents and the army. Or maybe some angry katoeys (ladyboys) suffering from hormonal imbalance during their gender therapy injections and are just pissed off at everyone in general? Yeah, that's it!! Psychotic ladyboys!!

About damn time someone actually came out and said it!! Druze chief and Lebanese MP Walid Jumblatt has accused the Hezbollah of being involved in a string of political assassinations, according to an interview aired on Arab television.

UPDATE: Kenya has reinforced its northern border and U.S. forces are also said to be in the region to prevent foreign militants aligned with the Islamists from escaping.

A Somali government soldier said the attack would begin on Sunday night at the Islamists' northernmost frontline in Jilib, about 45 km (28 miles) north of Kismayu on the coast.

"The Ethiopians plan to shower the Islamist troops with artillery tonight until they run away. They then want to capture Jilib by tomorrow," the soldier told Reuters from the convoy. "We are now 30 km from Jilib.

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Saddam Hussein, the former president of Iraq, was executed by hanging shortly before dawn on Saturday in Iraq, Arab media outlets reported.

The U.S. military and FOX News have not yet confirmed that the execution has taken place. Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya wire services and U.S.-backed TV station Al Hurrah reported his death.

The man dubbed the Butcher of Baghdad was convicted of crimes against humanity for the killing of 148 Shiite men and young boys after their failed assassination attempt in 1982 in the village of Dujail.

I'm still laughing when I read the crap that has spewed out of the mouth of Iranian president Ahmadinejad during his Christmas message. Here are some excerpts from an article from Dariush Mirzai:

A spokesman for the Iranian president stated yesterday in the Iranian capital that Ahmadinejad’s letter was “non political”, that it focused on the “shared teachings of the prophets” and the need for “close collaboration” between the religions against unjust relations that exist in the world.

Muslims help ensure peaceful Christmas for Indonesian Christians

Christmas services for Christians in Indonesia concluded without any incidence thanks to a large police presence nationally and members of the Muslim community who volunteered to help with security.

Former president Gus Dur's Nahdlatul Utama (NU) provides extra security yearly for many churches across Indonesia since the church bombings of 2000. The NU's paramilitary branch stands guard not only at Christmas but also during Easter services as well and has on occasion provided extra security during times of terrorist threats to the Christian community. The NU has a membership of more than 40 million Indonesians and is the largest Muslim organization in Indonesia, representing a large portion of the 'moderate' majority here. The NU combines Islam with spiritualism/mysticism to form 'Indonesian Islam'. Many of the Middle Eastern Muslims see these Indonesian Muslims as heretics. In my opinion, Middle Eastern Muslims could learn a lesson about living in peaceful co-existence and co-operating with other faiths from the members of Indonesia's NU.

Akhtar Mohammad Osmani, Confirmed Dead

Reuters via WaPo: But a senior Taliban commander who declined to be identified confirmed Osmani had been killed.

"He has died. We got this information on the day of the strike but our leadership ordered us not to disclose it," the commander, speaking by telephone, told a Reuters reporter in the Pakistani border town of Chaman.

"He was not only an experienced military commander but also good in making financial transactions for us. He had good contacts," he said, without elaborating.

"His death will have some bad impact on our movement for some time," he added.

SINGAPORE, Dec 22 (Reuters Life!) - Dogs, bats, Kentucky Fried Chicken and barramundi will grace dinner tables across the Asia Pacific this Christmas, a festival celebrated with lots of cheer, and very little turkey, in this mainly non-Christian region.

Christmas Day is seen as a foreign, Western festival in many countries in Asia but that doesn't stop millions of people from cooking up banquets of local food unheard of in the West.

In Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim country which also has a substantial Christian community, Christmas feasts include delicacies such as pork soaked in blood and dog meat.

Also called RW ( pronounced 'air way') in Ambon and Sulawesi, dog is common at traditional markets. I've eaten it in China and South Korea during the winter when locals eat it to warm up the body.

"We usually hold a family gathering at our parents' house or in-laws' house after Christmas eve mass," said Ermida Simanjuntak, a Batak Christian Indonesian. "We do not exchange gifts, we use this event more to meet and talk."

In the eastern island of Sulawesi, some Manado Christians swear by kawok, or garden rats, cooked with chilies and garlic, and paniki, or bats, cooked in coconut milk.

"Paniki's meat tastes almost the same as kawok but it has more muscles," said Manadonese Stephen Lapian. "But if you cut the arm pit in a wrong way, it will be very stinky."

In Japan, many people head to Kentucky on Christmas -- Kentucky Fried Chicken, that is.

The fast food joints do a roaring trade over the Christmas period, with restaurants turning away customers on December 24 if they haven't booked their chicken in advance.

"Over the period from 23rd to 25th December, sales can be as high as ten times normal levels," said Sumeo Yokokawa, of the public relations department at Kentucky Fried Chicken Japan.

The Kentucky Christmas habit started in 1974, after a foreign customer mentioned to a store manager that he had come to buy fried chicken because he was unable to find turkey in Japan. His words inspired a sales campaign that paid off.

"The fashion at the time was to have a nice American-style Christmas," said Yokokawa. "So we offered the chicken as a set with a bottle of wine and it was very popular."

Ethiopia sends early Christmas present to Somali Islamotards

MOGADISHU, Somalia - Ethiopian fighter jets pounded several Somali towns held by a powerful Islamic militia, a sharp escalation in violence that threatens to engulf the volatile Horn of Africa in widespread violence.

Ethiopia confirmed the attacks, the first time it has acknowledged that its troops were fighting in Somalia, though witnesses have reported their presence for weeks.

The airstrikes hit the strategic town of Belet Weyne on the Ethiopian border and surrounding villages up to 12 miles away, said Sheik Mohamoud Ibrahim Suley, an official with Somalia's Council of Islamic Courts. A resident of Belet Weyne — Ayanle Husein Abdi — said the strikes hit a strategic road and a recruiting center.

Ethiopia said it was acting to defend itself.

"After too much patience, the Ethiopian government has taken a self-defensive measure and has begun counterattacking the aggressive extremist forces," said Solomon Abebe, Ethiopia's foreign affairs spokesman.

Abdi said that the planes hit an Islamic center where the Islamic officials in the region enrolled volunteers who wanted to join the war. Another witness, Said Abukar Sahal, said the strikes were targeting the roads and defenses of the Islamic militia.

The Council of Islamic Courts has vowed to drive out troops from neighboring Ethiopia, a largely Christian nation that is providing military support to Somalia's U.N.-backed government.

Somalia has not had an effective government since warlords overthrew longtime dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991, plunging the country into chaos. The Islamic courts have steadily gained power since June, raising concerns about an emerging Taliban-style regime. The U.S. accuses the group of having ties to al-Qaida, which it denies.

Somalia's government spokesman, Abdirahman Dinari, said from Baidoa that his forces have "inflicted massive casualties," although the claim could not be independently confirmed.

Last week, officials from the Somali government and the Islamic union said days of fighting killed hundreds of people.

The Ethiopian airstrikes on Sunday were the first against Somalia's Islamic movement. Ethiopia and Somalia have fought two wars over their disputed border in the last 45 years. Islamic court leaders have repeatedly said they want to incorporate ethnic Somalis living in eastern Ethiopia, northeastern Kenya and Djibouti into a Greater Somalia.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi has said his government has a legal and moral obligation to support and defend Somalia's internationally recognized government. He has repeatedly accused the Islamic courts of backing ethnic Somali rebels fighting for independence from Ethiopia and has called such support an act of war.

As Sunday's fighting wore on, the Islamic leadership in the capital, Mogadishu, began broadcasting patriotic songs about Somalia's 1977 war with Ethiopia. Although the two countries view each other as enemies, Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf is a longtime ally of Ethiopia.

The militants, who want to govern Somalia according to Islamic law, invited foreign Muslims on Saturday to join their holy war against Ethiopian troops. Many fear the fighting could escalate into a regional battle.

"Muslims are brothers and help each other," said Sheik Yusuf Indahaadde, national security chairman for the Council of Islamic Courts. "We have a right to call our brothers and sisters to help us in this holy war."

The clashes could mean a major conflict in the Horn of Africa. Ethiopia, which has one of the largest armies in the region, and its bitter rival, Eritrea, could use Somalia as the ground for a proxy war. Eritrea backs the Islamists.

In Kismayo, a strategic seaport captured by Islamic militia in September, residents saw several foreign Arab fighters disembarking from ships this week.

Somali Prime Minister Ali Mohamed Gedi vowed Saturday that his government will "defend the people it is responsible for and Somali sovereignty" and said the Islamic fighters should return to negotiations. Several rounds of talks, mediated by the Arab League, have failed to produce any lasting effect.

Thousands of Somalis have fled their homes as troops loyal to the two-year-old interim administration fought Islamic fighters who had advanced on Baidoa, about 140 miles northwest of Mogadishu. Islamic militiamen control Mogadishu along with most of southern Somalia.

Government officials said more than 600 Islamic fighters had been killed during four days of clashes. Islamic militiamen said they killed around 400 Ethiopians and government fighters. Neither claim could be independently confirmed.

A RUNAWAY Philippine maid in the Gulf emirate of Kuwait was abducted and gang-raped by 17 men in desert camps, a newspaper reported today, adding that 14 suspects were in custody. Four men found the the Filipino woman after she fled her employer's house and took her to a desert camp where they raped her, the Al-Watan daily said, citing a security source.

They then offered the maid to six of their friends who raped her at a second camp before delivering her to seven others who gang-raped her at a third camp.

She was taken to hospital by Philippine consular officials, the paper said. The embassy was not immediately available for comment.

Police have detained 14 suspects so far - 13 Kuwaitis and one Iraqi, Al-Watan said. A manhunt is continuing for three other Kuwaitis.

More than 70,000 Filipinos live and work in oil-rich Kuwait, many of them as domestic servants.

Indonesian-UK Muslim group launched to counter extremism

Hmmm. A Muslim country who is struggling to be moderate, has problems with homegrown terrorists and has difficulty finding ( Noordin Top, Adnan Arsal et al), let alone keeping its terrorists in jail (Abu Bakr Ba'asyir and other released Bali bombing associates) joining forces with a country with a major Muslim problem and that has basically already submitted to Islam and accepted Dhimmitude. Muslim leaders and scholars held the first of a series of video-link meetings this month following the launch of an Indonesian UK Islamic Advisory Group initiated by Prime Minister, Tony Blair, The Muslim News reports exclusively.

But according to The Muslim News, which exclusively learnt about the initiative, the mainstream umbrella Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) has been excluded by the UK Government even though its inclusion was specifically requested by the Indonesians.

In its latest editorial, the monthly questioned “whose views Blair was trying to sponsor” by making one of the central aims of the advisory body the promotion of a “moderate vision of Islam.”

“Does he want the Government’s version of Islam to be legitimised by the group leading to its enforcement on British Muslims,” the editorial asked.

The advisory body was originally launched in October to promote better understanding between Islam and the West and counter religious extremism in the UK.

It followed Blair visiting Jakarta in March, when he agreed with Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, to cooperate in fighting terrorism.

The objective is to come up with recommendations for Blair to consider with the British team, selected by Britain’s Foreign Office’s Engaging with the Islamic World Programme, telling The Muslim News they had been given six points by Blair to explore.

These included how to develop links and promote dialogue between Indonesian and British Muslim organizations and how to build partnership across boundaries, including with members of other faiths and civil society.

They were also asked to propose effective means by which to promote a moderate vision of Islam and highlight best practices for achieving the twin objectives of promoting greater understanding between Islam and the West and preventing religious extremism.

According to The Muslim News, there also appeared to be some conflict, with the deadline set for British Muslims by the end of January despite the Indonesians telling the Foreign Office that they need at least six months to be effective.

UNIFIL plays Santa role while letting Hizbullah re-arm

SOUTH LEBANON: The commander of the United Nations Interim Force in South Lebanon (UNIFIL), Major General Alain Pellegrini, monitored the distribution of thousands of gifts to students in the Southern region of Naqoura on Thursday on the occasion of Christmas and New Year.

Since their original deployment in the South in 1978, French troops are accustomed to distributing gifts to children in different parts of the South, a source told The Daily Star.

For their part, Polish troops handed out some 80 gifts to students at Tibnin's official school.

In a separate development, Pellegrini said he "hopes security and tranquility will prevail in the region."

Pellegrini told reporters the situation "is stable," and added: "There are no problems yet."

Asked about an Israeli withdrawal from the border region of Ghajar, Pellegrini said: "The Israelis might pull out by the end of the year ... But we have to wait."

The Invisible Killer

SNIPING is a calculating, unemotional pursuit, frightening in its efficiency. But, in the language of those other calculating professionals, accountants, it is very cost-effective.

Estimates vary, but this astonishing statistic from the Vietnam War is generally accepted: for every 50,000 bullets fired by regular troops, there was one confirmed kill. There was one kill for every ten rounds fired from sniper rifles.

There is probably no more focused application of military force than sniping. Platoon Sergeant John Garrity of the 1st Battalion, The Prince of Wales’s Own Regiment of Yorkshire has taught on five courses and he expressed it perfectly: "A battle should always be premeditated, but sniping is even more premeditated. You hunt down a target . . . and then you kill him."

The black art of the sniper can make a huge difference whatever the circumstances. In defence, a few bullets from a pair or a pack of snipers (they should always operate as a team) can kill prestige targets, stopping an advance in its tracks. Even an armoured column can be seriously set back if a commander is picked off in his turret.

In attack, snipers scout ahead, feeding vital intelligence back to commanders and bringing indirect artillery or mortar fire down on the enemy. Radio and fire direction skills can be as important as marksmanship.

Small wonder, therefore, that infantry regiments call their snipers the "force multipliers" and that few units ever believe they have enough.

The burden of operational duties and routine training faced by today’s stretched battalions means that too few courses are organised to satisfy demand from soldiers who see sniper status as the pinnacle of their profession.

On one of their all-too-rare courses in the wind-swept hills near Sennybridge in the Brecon Beacons, 1 PWO’s 14 candidates were 12 days into six weeks of training.

One student had already been dismissed. "He wanted to a be a sniper but didn’t want to put the work in," confided Sgt Garrity, adding that only three of those remaining were expected to pass. The rest would make their way back to their units with knowledge and experience that would not be wasted, but without the coveted badge (two crossed rifles surmounted by an "s").

Not that there is shame in failure. Course leader Capt Dick Leach knows that he and his instructors – one for every two students – expect more than most soldiers can offer. "It’s both mental and physical. We want guys who are confident in their abilities, can make decisions and then stay with them. They need to be fit and robust and able to stand up to the cold and wet."

Sgt Garrity confirmed the old clich that a sniper needs to have the skills of a poacher. "That doesn’t mean that someone from a tower block in Birmingham can’t do it. But they must have that hunting instinct."

Surprisingly, trainers rarely mention shooting skills, probably because if a soldier has been accepted for a course he is already a qualified marksman – proven on the range – capable of taking out targets at long distance. (It is a source of irritation to the instructors that journalists are prone to call any lone rifleman a sniper.)

Nevertheless, the first two weeks of any course are spent largely on the range and in the classroom. Trainees study the theory of sniping and get to know the L96A1 bolt-action rifle that will become their best friend.

They will find the time to make scarecrow suits Wurzel Gummidge would envy. Skillfully used, these creations of rags and vegetation enable a man to blend, almost magically, with his environment.

During the next four weeks fieldcraft dominates the curriculum. Students constantly striveto improve the five skills that they must master if they are to gain the sniper badge: observation, distance-judging, map-reading, camouflage and concealment, and stalking. Eventually they must pass practical tests in all of these areas, as well as in weapon-handling and theory. Fail in one subject, and they fail the course. Few pass.

This was enough to concentrate the minds of the 1 PWO students (as it was supposed to) but the demands did not seem to affect their enthusiasm.

Moving almost imperceptibly through the water-sodden vegetation of the Brecons, the would-be snipers approached to within a few hundred metres of an observation post. On operations, they might have the luxury of killing from 900 metres, but getting to within 300 metres of their target added spice to this stalking exercise. "Train hard to fight easy" is the oft-repeated motto.

On this exercise the stalkers were, as is usually the case, spotted by binocular-equipped instructors in the observation post (OP), who brought in trackers by radio. Some students got a trainer in the cross-hairs and fired a blank round before withdrawing.

"Their spirits go up and down," said Sgt Garrity, eyeing a damp and ragged blob as it got to its feet. "If they’ve crawled 900 metres and are then spotted by an OP, they can be very unhappy. But it’s usually only five minutes before they’ve forgotten the disappointment and are asking what they did wrong."

Applying cam cream to the muzzle of his rifle, the only bit of shiny metal that could give his presence away, one private was showing youthful enthusiasm. But there was also an intriguing glimpse of another quality coming to the fore: the calculating coolness of the sniper.

What was the most important lesson he had learned? "One shot, one kill. If you don’t get that, you might as well be dead yourself." He looked at the instructor. "Isn’t that right, sir?"

The captain nodded approvingly. There was at least one potential sniper on this course.

Ba'asyir still guilty, court decision means nothing

Terrorist and Jemaah Islamiyah spiritual leader Abu Bakr Ba'asyir, may have apparently won a small victory over the West in yesterday's Indonesian Supreme Court ruling, but the ruling means nothing given Indonesia's severely corrupt judicial system and poor track record on prosecuting guilty parties. The farce that is the Indonesian justice system ruled yesterday that Abu Bakr Ba'asyir was not part of the 2002 Bali Bombings and overturned his conviction after Ba'asyir had served an extremely light sentence for his part. Ba'asyir of course took the opportunity to take shots at the West who he blamed for his jailing.

Indonesia's extremely poor track record for dealing with corrupt businessmen, politicians and militants shows that the court system is fraught with corruption, bribery, intimidation and ineptness. Most new laws brought into play here in Indonesia to deal with terrorism and corruption are thrown out by the Supreme Court. Even if convicted, most prisoners enjoy generous sentence reductions on the Islamic holiday of Idul Fitri and Indonesian Independence Day.

Indonesia still hasn't dealt with its former military dictator Soeharto, charged with corruption and named by Transparency International as the most corrupt leader of recent world history after allegedly milking the Indonesian people of up to 35 US billion dollars during his 33 year reign.

Indonesians and the world still await the execution of Bali bombers Amrozi, Imam Samudra and Ali Gufron which continues to be delayed and is threatened by a possible decision by Supreme Court judges as they consider the bomber's appeal that they cannot be tried under the fairly recent Terrorism law that was enacted after they committed the bombings. The law is considered to be retro-active to the bombings and this will be the first test as to whether the law will hold up in Indonesian court. Don't hold your breath. Remember, logic and common sense are non-existent here.

Lawmaker won't apologize for Islamophobic letter

If I lived in the US, I would move to Virginia just to support Rep. Virgil Goode. Goode has come out and taken a shot at the disease that has inflicted America and western civilization, Islam. Kudos for standing up for what made America great and for traditional beliefs as opposed to secular humanist/multicultural crap and the Muslim invasion. In a letter released to CNN, Goode wrote:

Abu Bakr Ba'asyir has name cleared as terrorist

As just reported on Indonesian TV, the Indonesian Supreme Court has overturned a ruling that Abu Bakr Ba'asyir conspired against Indonesia and his name has been cleared from his participation in the first Bali bombings even though he already served part of his sentence. He was already cleared of involvement in the JW Marriot bombing in Jakarta due to lack of evidence. What does this mean? In Indonesia, Ba'asyir is no longer a convicted terrorist and is innocent. As the TV reporter stated, "His good name has been returned."

Welcome to Indonesia, where there is no logic, corruption is still rampant, terrorists run free, tourists are targets, non-Muslims are persecuted and everything is fucked up. Aceh's sharia bylaws 'hurting the needy and protecting the wicked'

Yes, Sharia really works. It really works to demean and oppress those living under it.

Women's activist Khairani Arifin criticized the bylaws' simplistic implementation, which she said had worsened the lot of women in the province. "Sharia implementation has focused on and discriminated against women, who are supposed to be agents of satanic deeds," she said.

Artist Azahari, 25, said the bylaws were symbolic and did little to encourage moral behavior. Other examples of this "surface" public piety were Arabic writings put up in Muslim shops and the enforced closure of commercial premises during Friday prayers, he said.

Meanwhile, the likely next governor of the province, Irwandi Yusuf, said his government would re-evaluate the bylaws' implementation. "I personally disagree with the four qanun because they do nothing to improve peoples' religious lives. "All the bylaws will be evaluated and their implementation will be postponed if the people do not want them," he said.

Hopefully this will set a precedence for the rest of Indonesia and get the Indonesian government moving on stopping Sharia by-laws in West Sumatera, West Java, South Sulawesi and other areas where hardline Islamists are trying to establish footholds for Sharia to eventually replace Pancasila and the Indonesian constitution. And as usual, I will take this opportunity to call these Sharidiots a bunch of f*&%ing morons and if they don't like the way Indonesia is, then move to Saudi Arabia or southern Somalia or Pakistan or some other wonderful place like that with like-minded folk who are already enjoying low GDP, high unemployment, censored speech and freedoms in a Sharia environment.

About damn time some tsunami donor woke up

Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - A German donor has withdrawn a financial assistance of 1 million Euro (about Rp10 billion) for tsunami victims of Sabang city after reports on an alleged corruption by FIG Indonesia which had been entrusted with the management of the aid, a spokesperson said.

"Alleged corruption committed by FIG Indonesia has caused negative impact on tsunami survivors living in Sabang city as the fund for meant for them had been withdrawn," FIG Indonesia`s spokesman Batara R. Hutagalung said here Wednesday.

The alleged corruption might have been committed by certain officials of FIG Indonesia and its local partner GeRAK, he said.

Hutagalung was explaining a finding of the Anti-Corruption People Movement (GeRAK) that FIG Indonesia has made a fictitious project and set up bad quality houses for tsunami victims.

Why do you think two years later there are still survivors living in tent cities? Two years!! A Habitat for Humanity crew can build a livable low-cost, low-interest house in a weekend for US$2000 here in Indonesia. What has the corrupt Indonesian and Acehnese governments done? Not a helluva lot considering all the money that poured in from around the world. Where has all that money gone? Corrupt politicians and contractors probably. Who suffers? The Acehnese people. Does anyone know who's doing what in Aceh and how is everything being co-ordinated?

I remember an article in the Jakarta Post that said the Acehnese government tried to get a rebuilding budget passed for schools as was reported damaged or destroyed during the tsunami. This budget included new schools to be built in areas with no population. Wonder where the money was going to go? Bibi says let's bring Ahmadinejad to court

After meeting with over 50 ambassadors and diplomats, Israeli Opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu expressed support for an initiative to bring Iranian President to the International Court of Justice in the Hague for violating the anti-incitement clauses of the UN's 1948 Genocide Convention. Article 3 defines "direct and public incitement to commit genocide" as a punishable act.

Netanyahu also warned the diplomats on Tuesday not to allow Ahmadinejad to acquire nuclear weapons or to use them to commit another Holocaust. In a briefing at Tel Aviv's Carlton Hotel, Netanyahu told them that while Adolf Hitler first sought world conquest and then nuclear weapons, Ahmadinejad was doing the same in the opposite order.

Race War brewing in Malaysia?

Recently, media headlines in Malaysia have been calling for racial harmony after many statements made by Malay politicians against ethnic Chinese and underneath it all is a growing resentment by non-Malays against the Malay majority. Having just spent some time in Malaysia visiting Indian friends in Penang and Chinese friends in KL and Johore, I definitely sense more anger and hatred against the Malay Muslims than a year ago when I last visited. Even the Malaysian PM Abdullah Badawi admits that racial relations in Malaysia are fragile and has appealed for national unity. Badawi described the worsening relationship between Muslim Malays and minority ethnic Chinese and Indians as a 'disease'. This 'disease' is caused by several factors including the growing Islamization of the country, the still complaining of Malays that ethnic Chinese marginalize Malays yet the government enforces 35 year old affirmative action laws to promote and give advantage to Malays by establishing racial quotas, government aid to Malays and marginalize other races, and corruption by Muslim Malays in handling of funds designated for Chinese schools as well as other projects. You reap what you sow and this is beginning to come to fruition for the Malays, causing the racial disharmony now evident in Malaysia.

Many ethnic Chinese believe that former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew was correct when he assessed that Malaysia and Indonesia still marginalize their Chinese populations, treat them unfairly and in the past have allowed atrocities to be carried out against Chinese (especially in Indonesia). Malaysia and Indonesia kicked up a big fuss (as most Muslim nations do when accused of such things) but the truth is that these two nations do still try to restrict Chinese advancement in government and in many other facets of society and Lee was speaking the truth.

Only making matters worse in Malaysia is former elected dictator (leader) and corrupt bastard Mohammad Mahathir. Mahathir has previously had former deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim jailed on trumped up sodomy charges when the two had disagreements over economic reforms, been a constant yapping chihuahua against the Western policies and now focuses his idiocy and hate on current Prime Minister Badawi. Mahathir criticizes economic policies, nepotism and police affairs of the current government which funnily enough have carried over from his government. Unfortunately, Mahathir's recent heart attack hasn't shut him up.

The growing Islamization of northeastern states within Malaysia and slow introduction of Sharia law now creeping in throughout the rest of the country makes the 40% population of non-Malay and non-Muslims wary. Although states like Kelantan are cracking down on Muslims and have yet to implement Sharia on non-Muslims, it is only a matter of time before it takes place. Kelantan state tried to impose a fine system on non-Muslim women and their choice of clothing that doesn't meet Sharia standards but was widely criticized by the national government and withdrew the policy for now. Implementation of such a policy is insulting to women and will only further damage race relations. Hardline groups and fundamentalist party PaS (Parti Islam SeMalaysia) in Kelantan are apparently sending funds across the border into Thailand to support the Muslim terrorists and their bid for a separate Muslim state in southern Thailand.

So what is going to happen? As long as Chinese and Indians still have some freedom and are able to continue to make money and be successful, then the race war will probably be put on hold, but, if Muslim Malays continue to try to marginalize and suppress non-Malay's freedoms with the implementation of Sharia and new affirmative action laws then watch for a backlash against the Malays and the government. A migration of Indian and Chinese Malaysians with their monetary assets would cause an economic catastrophe for Malaysia but would be rightly deserved.

In the Jakarta Post article, it says the funding is to provide improved schooling for the poor and girls who are beginning to attend the boarding schools and to improve the standard of teaching and education. Maybe they can fly in some madrassah teachers from Pakistan or Saudi Arabia to train the local teachers how to raise suicide bombers and jihadis. They don't learn anything but the Koran and other Islamic studies so it's no wonder these schools don't meet educational standards. I'll bet all these kids fail the national exams. Yes, let's have more brainwashing of students especially girls so they all end up like the mindless in the picture below. The Indonesian government would be wiser to spend money to shut down these boarding schools and send the kids to government schools.

'Tis the season for Christmas church bombing

Well, the Christmas season is upon us here in Indonesia which means the jihadis are probably looking to bomb churches or Western interests again. We haven't had our yearly bombing yet which leaves me wondering if the militant Islamotards are planning to end 2006 with a "bang". The US Embassy has issued it's yearly Christmas warning to all American residents in Indonesia.

The U.S. Embassy reminds Americans in Indonesia of the continued serious security threat to Americans and other westerners in Indonesia. In recent years terrorist attacks have occurred in Jakarta and elsewhere during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday season. The Embassy urges Americans to remain vigilant about security at all times.

Terrorist attacks could occur at any time and could be directed against any location, including those frequented by foreigners and identifiably American or other western facilities or businesses in Indonesia. Such targets could include but are not limited to places where Americans and other Westerners live, congregate, shop or visit, including hotels, clubs, restaurants, shopping centers, identifiably western businesses, housing compounds, transportation systems, places of worship, schools or public recreation events. Terrorists in Indonesia have most often directed attacks at specific buildings or locations. The possibility exists that individual Americans could be targeted for kidnapping or assault.

The Embassy urges Americans in Indonesia to evaluate carefully the security implications of their daily activities, and to consider the level of security provided when choosing venues for holiday celebrations, religious services, and recreation and travel. Americans should observe vigilant personal security precautions at all times, be aware of their surroundings, and vary the routes and times of their daily activities.

INDONESIA is deploying some 18,000 police and troops to guard churches and mosques over Christmas and New Year with terror mastermind Noordin Top still on the loose, police said today.

The US embassy warned yesterday of the possibility of militant attacks against Americans and other Westerners during the festive season.

National police chief Sutanto said the force "will be on the alert because (Noordin) is still at large.''

Noordin is a key member of the al-Qaeda-linked Jemaah Islamiah extremist network, blamed for a series of terrorist attacks including the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people, including 88 Australians.

Jakarta police spokesman Ketut Untung Yoga Ana said "Operation Candlelight'' would kick off on December 23 for 11 days.

Some 18,000 police and army personnel would be deployed to safeguard churches and mosques, as well as strategic public and commercial venues in Jakarta, Mr Ana said.

Other areas were also planning security operations to safeguard Christmas celebrations and tourist spots.

Can someone please tell me why mosques need to be guarded when it's Islamic militants bombing churches and Western interests?
